Wildflowers & Ladybugs
I always seem to perform best when the pressure is off. Which is weird, because in high school I lived for taking and acing all my tests, you know, when the pressure is ON.
In my creative work, I have discovered that my best work is unscripted, unposed, with no expectations. It’s more about creating an opportunity to tell a story. Setting the scene up for a desired look, and then letting my clients (or models aka my children) explore their surroundings in their own way.
For a long time now I’ve been eyeing all the pretty yellow wildflowers that grow in various places on the island. Yes, to some they are weeds, but when I see them they remind me of simpler childhood days. Of playing outside and picking flowers and leaves and playing with the little bugs.
Suspenders. Oh! I just love the timeless look of suspenders on a little boy. Somehow it screams ‘little boy on a carefree adventure’.
AND don’t forget a timeless dress for a little girl that twirls and flows with the wind; that’s comfortable and flattering; an everyday dress, but not really 😉 (you know what I mean moms. Let’s face it, little girls get just as dirty as little boys)
When I saw these dresses over at Alice and Ames I knew I needed to have one in every color and size for my daughter. But alas, we are all on a budget so I settled for 3, taking into account where I would be photographing her and what colors would match in those scenes. Haha, the brain of an artist.
Finally, I had all the right pieces put together; the outfits, the location, and the flowers were blooming. So off we went on our own adventure to play in the wildflower fields. We went, they played, I took pictures. Gabriel, found sticks, destroyed things with it, and dug in the dirt with his truck. Esther, picked flowers for her basket, blew on dandelions, and played with a little ladybug friend. It was a great afternoon.
Happy Easter to all of you! Praising the Lord today for his forgiveness and many blessings!
